Subversion, Git & Mercurial Hosting Backups
Here are XP-Dev.com you can be rest assured that we're fanatics when it comes to reliability and recoverability of your data, and we've gone to extreme lengths to put your mind to rest.
Double Backups for Subversion & Git Repositories
Every Subversion & Git repository that is hosted with us sits on a RAID1 (mirrored) configured hard drives. These hard drives are encrypted as well. While this protects the data from hard drive failures, its completely useless when the whole server fails.
So, we have implemented real-time backups for all users on a paid plan.
Every time you make a change to your repository, that changeset is replicated to a backup server in real-time. The backup server is always in a different datacenter from your primary server.
On top of the real-time backups, we decided that it was just not enough. Every night, we encrypt your changesets and send it to an off-site server. We will even keep all deleted repositories for 30 days in case you wanted to retrieve something that has been lost.
With double backups, you're not only protected from one datacenter failure, but two datacenter failures.
Still Unhappy ?
If you're still unhappy, or just want to have your own copy of your repository for safe keeping, you can configure your Subversion repository to be backed up to Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) for an additional $2/month. The backups are stored under buckets owned by your own AWS account, and Amazon will charge you separately for using their S3 service.
There is a set of Python backup scripts that can be used to download these personal backups from Amazon S3.
Head over to your Amazon S3 configuration page to get started with it.
Amazon S3 backups are only available for Subversion repositories at the moment.
